Ongoing Artist Statement:
I didn’t always want to be a teacher, though art was always apart of who I am. In high school, my art teacher told me I wouldn’t succeed in the art world. This fueled a flame inside to dive deeper and encourage others they could have a future with the Arts. I wanted to make a difference for others and share my passion. Once I graduated from BGSU and started my teaching career, I moved to a city that desperately needed teachers. This is where I found myself teaching through the Arts and my place within Art Integration. Art Education to me is more than teaching in an art room – sharing techniques and imaginative tactics can be used to teach any core subject. Teaching through the Arts creates a fundamental culture and climate shift; this learning process elevates the perception of what the Arts can do and how it ties together with other subjects. The Arts envelope every aspect of life, so it is salient to me for all school learning to come together with artistic approaches. Every child may not grow up to be an artist, but every child can grow up to use creative practices in their lives.

Balancing with my teaching career, I create artwork with subject matters that bring me joy. I find peace in creating a drawing or painting from photographs I take. I find time to create for friends and family to share my passions. I obsess over light and color to render a realistic form.
