Objectives:
create modified contour drawings of difference makers.
-Student draws a portrait focusing on what they see and not what they know. The eye follows the outline of what the artists hand draws. The artist looks at the subject and the paper equal amounts when drawing.
-Explore cross hatching for shadow
-Students will practice modified contour drawings.
-Students will brainstorm different people that have made a difference in their life (either personal or public figure or fiction)
-Students will create a modified contour drawing of a Difference Maker
Understand and apply types of line. Continue experimentation with contour lines: blind, continuous, and modified contours. Illustrating different people (real, fake, celeb) who are interesting or who make a difference to you. Finish atleast 2 or more contour portraits for one to be selected to recreate in final. Focus on the contour lines of the portrait. Students can add cross hatching if needed, but not necessary for project criteria. Students are focusing on accurate proportions of the face using line and emphasis of setting with a zentangle background.

Acitivity:
Class discussion – Difference makers
- Prompt: who do you want to chose for your portrait drawing and why?
- Think Pair and Share with peer for feedback on choices and finalization of ideas
Review proper proportions
- Student applies accurate proportions to a portrait
- Receives proportions handout
Activity: Continue zentangles and line patterns for the background
-With only prior knowledge, Students be timed to create as many different line patterns in the given shapes within 1 minute.
-Receive handout on different zentangles and patterns
-Experiment with creating their own zentangles
-Start to apply custom zentangles to the background of portrait
-Grade and go over zentangle wkst
Focus Question: How does your zentangle design relate to your chosen person for your portrait?
